About the treatment

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. A denturist is licensed to work independently. You can make an appointment directly.

How long does a denture last?

Six to eight years on average. Your jaw slowly changes shape, so the denture becomes looser. A yearly checkup keeps an eye on that.

Can I keep my denture in at night?

Better not. Your gums need rest. At night, keep your denture in water or in a cleaning solution.

How do I clean my denture?

Brush it every day with a denture brush and soap or a special denture cleaner — not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive. Rinse it briefly after every meal.

My denture is broken. Can I glue it myself?

Please do not. Household glue is harmful and often makes a proper repair impossible. Keep all the pieces and give us a call.

Is my denture covered by insurance?

If you live on Bonaire, the BES health insurance (ZJCN, the public health insurer for the Caribbean Netherlands) covers a full denture and a plastic partial denture. Bridges, crowns and usually implants are not covered. You can read more on the Costs and insurance page.

Which languages do you speak?

Dutch, Papiamentu, English and Spanish. Let us know in advance which language you prefer, and we will take that into account.
